The Role of the Editors

The Fool recognises that people who practice in a particular area of law know far more than he (or his researchers) can find. He also knows his home State and fields of practice best.

We would like to add further pages to our Practice Pages. We are also looking to expand our Site interstate..

You (and your colleagues) know already the resources that are available on the internet that are not only relevant but also practically useful to you. You probably even know of some that other practitioners in your field are not aware of. If the philosophy is to have a Web site "By Lawyers, For Lawyers", then it should be by local lawyers who are experts in their field. (Although we avoid the use of the word "expert" because of the legal and ethical implications).

This extends to the corresponding Public Page. You know the sorts of questions that the public will have in mind. You know the Sites to send them off to find information that has already been written for the public.

There is one Editor for each Page (and its Public Page). There is an Editor in each State for the page that appears in their State's version.

How much work is it?

We have a work sheet for you to go through to review the page, to point out anything that we might have missed, to point out any errors and to suggest other content.

You do not need to know anything about Web design. The work sheet is a Word document that you email to us. If you don't know how to copy a link / URL into a Word document, then we have instructions.

As there is to be an Editor for this page in every State there will be an accumulation of ideas. There will also be feedback and suggestions from users.

What is in it for the Editors?

  • Recognition as a leader in your field on the Foolkit Website - as viewed by your peers and by the Public.
  • Internet prominence. As an individual, you may rank very lowly in the world of the Internet and Search Engines. As an Editor of Foolkit you immediately raise your profile.
  • Promotion of yourself and your services prominently on the page. This is promotion to people within your State who are looking for information and answers on your area of the law. You are at the top of the page as Editor.
  • Promotion of your own Firm and your own Website. Clicking on your photo or "more information" takes the user to a page with more information about you - your qualifications and experience, your special area of the law, the name of your Firm and contact details including a link to your own Website.
  • The knowledge that you are helping your fellow practitioners and the Public by being part of this project.
  • There is only one Editor per State. If it is not you then it will be somebody else. The opportunity will not come up again.

How will Foolkit stay up-to-date?

  • We encourage feedback from our users.
  • Foolkit has software to alert us to changes on websites and broken links. If we detect a change on a page that we are watching for you, then we shall notify you.
  • Each Editor is likely to be aware of any changes in their area of the Law in any event.
